Landlord/tenant Ordinance

This letter goes out to all those whom espouse about the plight of the working class, the middle class, the poor, the working poor and the disenfranchised that suffer at the hands of whatever your claims. Where are your voices now that a real cancer has erupted within our local borders? Where are your voices, as poor leadership with a hint of real fascism, erupts within the halls of our local governing bodies? Where is your voice Wendy Lee, if what you claim is true that somehow we are connected at the hip, why silence on the subject of this landlord/tenant ordinance that is sweeping the valley?
Why the silence from your comrades in arms, Professor Howard, Professor Walter Brash, Smith and all the other socialist liberals? Your silence is baffling!
Even more baffling is the silence from the conservative side, the very people whom I have worked hard with for the elimination of property taxes and educating people; about the “constitutional right” to own property. So, I ask why the silence from my former allies?
Is there a different set of citizenship qualifications contained in We, the people? Does the Castle Doctrine only cover homeowners and landowners? Aren’t we all covered by the 4th Amendment of the US Constitution and Article 1 Section 8 of the Pennsylvania Constitution?
Aren’t we all endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable and indefeasible rights, among which (the word “among”, is telling in that there are too numerous rights to list in the founding document), are the Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness? Aren’t we all entitled to equal protection under the law? Isn’t the Constitution the Law of the Land, and the scales by which all other laws are supposed to be scrutinized?

Have we all become too watered down with our own self petty agendas that we  can no longer use the common sense understanding that looking after the liberties and rights of the lesser of those in our society is the best way of preserving our own? Has it now become too easy to complain about your neighbor’s condition, thus not looking at the fact that once power is given to government, the fire of which may also swing full circle to consume your rights also? Jim, isn’t thinking that Danville’s adoption of the landlord/tenant ordinance as being prudent may in fact be the Antonym of prudent i.e.(reckless)?

Landlord Association, while you carry your fight to the courts don’t you realize your fight is in the wrong venue, that of being a class which places you in the arena of administrative law and the UCC Code. Anything you win there will be minimal and does not address the Constitutional Rights issue. Most importantly, the Constitutional Rights issue is an individual issue, which is why you lost your suit for the ordinance being unconstitutional.

Yes, there is a problem with some housing and a problem with slumlords, you’ll find this in most any community in Pennsylvania, but to diminish the rights of a class of people on the basis of health and safety issues of a few bad apples is far from prudent. It couldn’t have anything to with the revenue side of the equation could it? Revenue from the landlord/tenant ordinance couldn’t be the new golden goose for government could it? Either way, my next letter will be about honest solutions to a concerning issue. Renters, hold your heads high! This fight is just beginning! To read Article 1 of the Pennsylvania Constitution go to http://www.the=patriot-s-voice.org/id18html and educate yourselves on your rights.

Berwick woman your 30 sec post is excellent to the point of your willingness to pay a tax for no-kill centers. It is refreshing to see someone come forward to show people the grand ideal experiment of our Founders of self governance is still alive. Now you need to figure your tax for the year and send it to county officials and tell them you voluntarily subject yourself to a yearly tax and the tax is to go to building , staffing and support for no-kill shelters in your county. Bravo to you!

Now your other point of the cat doing what it is supposed to do to survive! Beg your pardon, kill 5 and eat 1? Nonsense! Hunters, who hunt to put food on their table, may have some disagreement there! That cat has now depleted the wildlife supply! Thanks for exposing a fundamental problem of thinking.

In answer to Danville mans 30sec. post, 6.26.11. No where in my letter did I mention the word liberal. I happen to know several liberals in this area and they are far from being far-left radical animal rights activists. Please get your facts straight and give extra care to accuracy when responding to the issue at hand.

I happen to agree with most of your points you’ve made, however, it is your choice of words, not mine, to suggest liberals set at the same table as Socialist Progressive Communists, which you can find in both parties. I also admire your conviction and apparently your belief to shoot strays as a right to protect your property, so why then are you afraid to put your name behind your posts, as that would add some honor to your words.

Cat in the kettle

6.25.11 PE “Fix for cat woes proposed” The proposed solution to the problem of the overrunning of our communities by cats by way of no kill shelters is kind of like setting up a savings account in which you make deposit but can never make a withdrawal! Spaying and neutering have always been options along with euthanasia, though not perfect, euthanasia has served as a relief valve for the general public, keeping a realistic check on the problem.

Shawn Bradley’s euphonizing if the growing problem is the real compounding of the problem. Perhaps requiring licenses and controlling your cat should now be put on the table, or face a growing number of people being criminalized to protect their property rights. But, it is good to see the debate begin.

Will you pay tax for no-kill center?

I, being an avid hunter and fisherman was out walking along the bank of a stream I am planning on fishing later this summer, checking on the streams condition. Standing next to an area with a nice hole [fishing term relating to a pocket of water] my attention was drawn to an area just below my position by a movement of light tan, it was a cat scrambling around brush in pursuit of its’ quarry. Figuring it was after a mouse I continued to work my way down the stream bank toward that area. As I approached the area of the cat, it came slinking towards me carrying a baby rabbit in its mouth and upon spotting me it turned and ran up the bank towards the field and road. A few yards further I discovered a scene that has caused me to write this letter. There, I found the corpses of 4 other baby rabbits. The cat had raided the nest and killed 5 baby rabbits and carried away only one, leaving the others to rot in the heat of the day. This quickly turned my mind to a growing problem of a ballooning population of stray and feral cats roaming our neighborhoods, and I can relate to this problem right here in Nescopeck.Though I don’t condone the mans action of putting out poison, I can relate to his frustration over a growing problem and it seems there is no real solution arising from the minds of those elected to serve the public, so then it is time for those ardent lovers of the feline who were duped by the far left radical animal rights people into the un-commonsense position of no kill centers to pull yourselves up by the bootstraps and step up to the plate and become part of the solution instead of part of the problem and approach it with a commonsense attitude.Let’s have our county officials send out a form to every household within their jurisdiction asking if they support the no kill proposition, and check YES and sign the form. They agree to a 10% annual tax that will go to the building and staffing of no kill centers and a 3% annual tax to support feeding and health care. We can call it the Humane Animal Health and welfare fund. Those that state NO on the form will be exempt from the tax. If after the forms are processed and it appears there are not enough YES signatures then we go back to the old system of the Humane Society where the public actually had an option of honestly dealing with the now present problem of domestic animal over population.

Simple approach with a simple solution!
