The purpose of this page is to promote public awareness of local sex offenders who have been convicted of a sex crime against children. Every offender does not make onto Megan's Law web site because although accused of a felony, they can and often do plead down to a conviction for a lesser crime. If someone can be verified to have committed a crime agianst children by public court records, they may be listed here regardless of Megan's Law requirements. I may also list someone whose crime was not sexual in nature but did put children in a compromising situation where they could have been taken advantage of. This is a site for public info only so parents and caregivers can be informed about who they allow to have access to their children. It should never be assumed that this information is put foward to accuse those who may have been wrongfully convicted or to encourage personal retirbution against convicted offenders listed here.

Jan 31, 2007   Phil Hunter of Danville is given a 2 and a half to six year sentence for charges related to having sex with a 15 year old girl. The report states that after routinely inviting her and other kids into his house on Nassau Street, he started having sex with her (sometime in July, 2005). The charges against him, according to Montour County court records, were Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Person less than 16 years of age, Statutory Sexual Assault, Corruption of Minors, Indecent Assault of a Person less than 16 years of age, and Aggravated Indecent Assault (which he plead guilty to). My reading of the court records leads me to believe he will be eligible for parole in July or August of 2009. The news reports states that a psychologist's opinion of the matter indicates Hunter is not a threat to re-offend based on his history and family support. According to the history I've read, he preyed upon a vulnerable teenager. It also mentions there is a common law wife involved and a 9 year old son, which distrubs me because I wonder who else was in the house when the molestation was going on for reportedly almost a year. May 2, 2007   The Press Enterprise reports that David Bostian was sentenced to state prison for one to three years for having sex with a 15 year old girl. He plead guilty  to statutory rape.  The news report also indicates he was having sex with a minor while another minor child slept nearby. Records obtained from the Court of Common Pleas of Montour County show that he was initially charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Statutory Sexual Assault, Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age, and Corruption of Minors. Acording to court records, he was sentenced on 05-01-07 which means he could be on the streets as early as May of 2008 if he makes parole. The seriousness of these charges as well as the details of the news report warrent serious concern for anyone who has children.   July 24, 2007   The Press Enterpise reports that Dylan Mattern of Danville is given 4 to 10 years for molesting a 15 year old girl. In 2005, this same man plead guilty to Indecent Assault against a Person less than 16 years of age after reportedly being nabbed in an internet sting operation. He arranged to meet with what he thought was a 13 year old girl for sex. Court records from Montour County show he was charged with two counts of Indecent Assault, Corruption of Minors, and Criminal Attempt. While on parole from the conviction related to these charges, he molested his most recent victim in his home. He was then charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault against a Person less than 16 years of age, Corruption of Minors, and Indecent Assault against a Person less than 16 years of age. He plead guilty to Aggravated Indecent Assault according to court records from Montour County, which resulted in the sentence mentioned above.  My reading of this same report indicates  he should be eligible for parole in April of 2011.   August 27, 2007 The Press Enterprise reports not specifically on the offender at this time, but the courageous tale of the victim. Nonetheless, since the offender is mentioned, here's what I know-court records from Lycoming County indicate that Kevin James Huffman of Williamsport is charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault (x2), Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child, Indecent Assault of a Person less than 13 years of age (x3), and Endangering the Welfare of Children. The news report and court records indicate that this man raped his then step daughter starting from when she was eight years old until the age of twelve. He is listed on the PA Megan's Law website as a sexually violent offender. Having plead guilty to one count of Aggravted Indecent Assault and Endangering the Welfare of Children, he received an 11 and a half to 23 month county prison sentence and a seven year probation sentence. Here's what bothers me about this-he raped repeatedly an eight year old girl. If he had abducted a strange child and done this same thing or raped an adult woman, where would he be right now? I know the system requires that the victim testify and that is a tremendous burden in cases like this, ergo the sentence. This man is on probation right now. Please consider contacting your local parole/probation office of Lycoming County regarding any questions and read the specifications of the Megan's law. Any verified report, even an anonymous one, of this guy violating his probation or violating the Megan's law statute may get him thrown back in jail.   August 31, 2007 According to the Press Enterprise, police raided the home of two men, Douglas "Dean" Welsh and Eugene Makara after allegations of child sexual abuse were made. The abuse involved a girl (8 or 9 years at the time) and a boy (age unspecified.) In another story dated Sept 1, 2007, police reported confiscating pornographic materials, sex toys, computer hard drives , and video equipment, among other things. Makara has a prior conviction for crimes against children after pleading guilty to Corruption of Minors in 1994 according to court records from Colombia County. He was initially charged with Rape by Forcible Compulsion, Statutory Rape, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse Against a Person with Mental Disability, Aggravated Assault, Indecent Assault Against a Person less than 14 yrs. of Age, and Corruption of Minors. His co-conspirator in that same case, Douglas Welsh, was charged with Rape by Forcible Compulsion, IDSI by Forcible Compulsion, Statutory Rape, Aggravated Assault, Indecent Assault Against a Person less than 14yrs of Age, and Corruption of Minors. Although the date of offense listed for each man is different, the news report and the court records indicate the victim was the same. After pleading guilty to Corruption of Minors, Welsh received a 3 to 5 year prison term and Makara a 5 to 23 month one (he testified against Welsh). The news report also states that Welsh was convicted of prior molestation charges in 1974 and 1976.       Folks this is isn't rocket science. Welsh is reported to be convicted of molestation in 1974 and 1976. The news report states that Makara was living with Welsh since he (Makara) was 15 years old, they are both convicted of charges related to the sexual assault of a young teenaged boy in 1991/1992, and now they are convicted of descipable acts against two young children. The news story reports that while these children were somehow in the care of these men between January 2002 and March 2004, they were made to sleep in the same bad with these men while being sodomized. The accusation was also leveled that the girl was photographed naked and that these children watched each other being raped by the men.  For this latest incident, Welsh was charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault of Child (x2), Indecent Assault Person Less than 13 Years of Age (x2), Corruption of Minors (x2), Invasion of Privacy (x3), Criminal Attempt-Photograph/Film/Depict On Computer Sex Act-Child (x2), Criminal Conspiracy Engaging-Rape of Child (x2), and Intercept Communications (x5) on 08-29-07. On 09-20-10, a jury found him guilty of one count each-Aggravated Indecent Assault of Child, Indecent Assault Person Less than 13 Years of Age, Corruption of Minors, and Criminal Conspiracy Engaging-Rape of Child. Eugene Makara was charged with Rape of Child(x2), Statutory Sexual Assault (x2), IDSI Person Less Than 16 Years Age (x2), Sexual Assault (x2), Aggravated Indecent Assault of Child (x2), Indecent Assault Person Less than 13 Years of Age (x2), Corruption of Minors (x2), Invasion of Privacy (x2), Criminal Attempt-Photograph, Film, Depict on Computer Sex Act-Child (x2), Criminal Conspiracy Engaging-Rape of Child (x2) and Intercept Communication (x5) on 08-29-07 according to Colombia County Court records. On 09-20-10 he was found guilty of all charges except-Invasion of Privacy, Criminal Attempt-Film/Photograph Sex Act, one count of Criminal Conspiracy Engaging-Rape of Child, and Intercept Communications. Welsh remains free on bail. Both men are set to be sentenced on October 27, 2010.   September 28, 2007 Doreen Halczak first appeared as the subject of a Jason Alert posted on this web site on Aug 26th, 2007. A Press Enterpise report (date unknown) indicated that she was charged with drug offences, a sexually based crime, and Corruption of Minor for an incident involving a teenaged girl. According to the report, the girl accused Halczak of getting her drunk after she and a friend lied to their parents to spend the night at Halszak's apartment (Apt 20, Town Park Village as last reported). The girl reported waking up the next morning, partially unclothed and feeling sore, and was reportedly told by Halczak that she (Halczak) had compromising pictures of her which she threatening to post on the internet unless the teen agreed to smoke dope with her. The report then states that when the girl's parents found her crying after returning home from Halczak's apartment, she told her parents about all of this and they contacted the police. Here's what I can verify as fact from Columbia County court records-Halczak was charged with three drug related charges, Photographing a Sex Act-Child, and Corruption of a Minor from an incident that happened on 07-07-06.  On 07-09-07, Halczak plead guilty to two drug related charges stemming from this incident with the teenaged girl. The  charge for photographing a sex act was thrown out as apparently the alleged pictures of the girl were never found. The corruption charge was thrown out as part of the plea deal.(Court records also show a prior arrest for this woman for Harrasment and Simple Assault.) Are you getting all of this as a parent? Would you want your teenager anywhere near this woman?   November 9, 2007 Eric Martz was released from a residential treatment center for young sex offenders back to his mother's home on East Anthony Avenue in Bloomsburg, according to an Oct. 31, 2007 Press Enterprise report. If you remember, this is the young man who as a teenager dragged a young girl down the street until bystanders interceded and twice followed girls into bathroom stalls. The story does state his mother is actively trying to convince the court he will be monitored at her home. I do feel for this mother, as I am sure no mother has any intention of ever seeing her son do these things. However, the story also states the obvious: he will be free to roam the streets again. Without new charges, there's nothing left for the court to do. I believe his past history should warrant extreme caution for the people with children who live in the vicinity. On Janaury 30, 2009, the Press Enterprise reports that Martz is alleged to have raped a woman in his home at knife point. Columbia County Court records state he is currently incarcerated in Columbia County prison, charged with Indecent assault-Forcible Compulsion, Rape-Forcible Compulsion, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, and Terroristic Threats.   November 29, 2007   The Press Enterpise reports that Dwain Mark Straight, of Bowman Street in Berwick, faces felony charges for failing to register his current address under Megan's Law as a convicted sex offender. The report also states that he was convicted of sexual abuse of children in 2001 in Northumberland County. It also points out that his unregistered address was discovered by a police officer responding to a complaint about a domestic disturbance. This is real important for you folks at home-all the police had to do to file FELONY charges was find this man living at an unregistered address. That's it! Before any of you reading this start to believe this problem is too big for you to solve, let me point this out-the Megan's Law web site, found on the home page of this site, allows for anonymous tips for non-complinat convicts under Megan's Law. If every one of you who has ever been abused as a child became aware of the registered sex offenders in your neighborhood and were to report those who are non-compliant, would it make a difference? They can go back to jail for not complying with Megan's Law. Please don't believe that you can't make a difference by speaking up to protect children. Even a mistaken report won't get you in any trouble since you can do it anonymously. Lastly, let me ask you this- if you were a kid who was abused, don't you wish someone was paying more attention when you were too afraid to speak out? Please don't believe you can't make a difference. The only way that happens is if you remain just a reader to this web site and not a doer.   January 14, 2008   The Press Enterprise on June 08, 2007, reports that Cindy May, Skyline Drive of North Centre Township is sentenced for corrupting minors and furnishing alcohol to minors. She posed as another girl’s mother so she (the minor) could get a tattoo w/o her parents’ permission in September of 2005. There was also alcohol furnished to a minor involved which was reduced to a lesser misconduct offense. As a parent, I would be concerned if my child were associating with Miss May because there was alcohol involved and a parent was being lied to about their child's whereabouts. This puts any child in tremendous danger of being taken advantage of in my opinion, which is why I decided to include Miss May on this list.   February 1, 2008 (This was first reported on October 30, 2007 as a Jason Alert) A Press Enterprise reported that Joshua Yost, 19 of Stillwater, plead guilty to sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl. The story also alleges that he knew the girl was 13 and that the girl waited 8 months to report the incident. Columbia County court records state that he was charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Assault Against a Person < 16 Years of Age, Corruption of Minors, and Statutory Sexual Assault. On 12-17-07, he was sentenced to 23 months of Intermediate Punishment, with two months of immediate work relase and four months of house arrest with mponitoring. He plead guilty to Statutory Sexual Assault. The other charges were dropped. He is under Columbia County supervision for sex offenders and he is back in our community. It is impoortant to note that he is released under supervision until sometime in 2009, so any report of misconduct by a citizen could get him locked back up.

January 20, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on January 11, 2008) The Press Enterprise first reported that Mark J. Hollingshead of Danville is accused of exposing himself and seeking sex over the internet from what he believed was a young girl. He allegedly engaged in this behavior with a police investigator posing as a 13 year girl. According to Montour County court documents, he was charged with Unlawful Contact with a Minor and Criminal Use of a Communication Facility. On 10-24-08, he plead guilty to both counts and was given 24 months probation. Part of his probation stipulates that he is to have no unsupervised contact with minors, and is not to be found in playgrounds and daycare centers. If anyone sees this man violating these conditions, they can call police to anonymously report it.

January 20, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on February 9, 2008) The Press Enterprise first reported that Michael Lee McCachren Jr., 25 of Danville, was accused of sexually abusing three toddlers over a two year period. The report states that he admitted to police to touching the children innappropraitely and is accused of masturbating in front of them. Columbia County court records state that he was tried for Indecent Assault of a Person Less than 13 Years of age and Rape of a Child. On 07-14-08, he plead guilty to Indecent Assault and the Rape charge was dropped. He is awaiting sentencing. A charge of Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 13 Years of age was dropped before he went to trial.

January 22, 2009 (This was first published as a Jason Alert on July 11, 2008. The date of the court conviction reflects the fact that this offence did happen in 2007, and was reported on/updated in 2008.) The Press Enterprise reported that Jay Mitchell Franzen, 23, is charged with having sex with a sixteen year old girl last summer. It also reports he now faces charges for corruption of minors. Here's a two-for in this story-a man mentioned as Nick Yoder, 106 Hartman Road (West Hemlock Topwnship?) supposedly allowed the use of his home for this deed. I don't believe I would allow my teenaged daughter around either one these folks. Columbia County Court record state that Franzen plead guilty/plea bargained to Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offence on 09-13-07. This is a summary violation  and it means he will not have to register as a sex offender even though the case  involved an underaged girl.

February 13, 2009 The Press Enterpise reported on November 29, 2008, that Terry Heimbach plead guilty to charges stemming from an incident where he furnished wine coolers to teenaged girls in his home and then fondled a 14 year old's breasts. Montour County court records state that Terry Heimbach, 65,  of Toby Run Road in Danville, was charged with two counts Corruption of Minors, Ind Asslt Person Less Than 16 Yrs Age, and Sell/Furnish Liquor Etc Minor. The two COM charges were withdrawn, and on 02-09-09, he plead quilty to Indecent Assault and Furnishing Alcohol to Minor. He was sentence to 5 to 18 months in prison starting 02-16-09. If this man makes parole before August 2010, and anyone observes him having contact with minors, they can anonymously report him to Montour County probation. They can then determine whether he is breaking his parole and possibly send him back to prison.

February 13, 2009   A Press Enterprise report dated 01-04-09 states that Ronald W. Singley Jr., coached Benton Littile League for two years before it was discovered he has a prior criminal conviction for a sex offence involving a 14 year old girl. The story reports that a Georgia based company that did the background check only went back five years, and that the court dockets they check are not to be used for background checks. Columbia County Court documents state that Ronald W. Singley Jr, was charged with Statutory Sexual Assault and Indecent Assault Person Less Than 16 Yrs Age in 1999. He plead guilty to both charges and received 6 to 23 months in prison. Columbia County Court documents also state that he was charged with Burglay (x2), Theft by Unlawful Taking-Moveable Property, and Receiving Stolen Property in August, 1995. He plead guilty to Burglary and was sentenced to 2 to 23 months in prison. The other charges were dropped.

Febraury 13, 2009   A Press Enterprise report dated Febraury 10, 2009, reports that Luther Pfleegor Jr, 62, of 275 Hilkert Road, Danville, plead guilty to charges from an incident involving a 15 year old girl. The incident happened on July 30, 2008, in his home. Montour County Court records state that he was charged with Rape Forcible Compulsion, Statutory Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault-Complainant Less Than 16 Yrs, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse Person Less Than 16 yrs age. He plead guilty to Statutory Sexual Assault and IDSI; the other two charges were dropped for his guilty plea. He is free on bail and waiting to be sentenced.

March 1, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on January 9, 2008) The Press Enterprise reports that Steven Steimling, of 1120 Numedia Drive in Locust Township propositioned a girl for sex over her cell phone. The news report states that he also showed up at the girl's home on East Fourth Street in Bloomsburg looking for the girl when her mother wasn't home. The mother went to the police with information she obtained over the girl's computer. According to Columbia County Court records, he was charged with Corruption of  Minors (x4), Unlawful Contact with Minor-Sexual Offenses, and Harassment. There was also a warrent served to him at an address on Iron street in Bllomsburg, so he may have some kind of resdence there as well. Columbia County Court records state that on January 30, 2009, he plead guilty to all but two Corruption of Minors charges and on February 28, 2009, he was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in Columbia County Prison with immediate work release.  That means he is back out in the community. It also means that if he is paroled in July 2009, he will still be on probation until January of 2011. I am sure that as part of his release, he is not to have contact with the victim or perhaps any undergaed children not related to him. Any concerns of his violation concerning children can be reported to Columbia County Probation and Parole for their inviestigation. Reports can be made anonymously.

April 6, 2009 (This was first listed as a Jason Alert on August 7, 2007) According to the original Press Enterprise report, Marvin Edward Eveland, 68, of Berwick, admitted to police that he kissed and fondled a seven year old girl's vagina, and also had her touch his penis. The incident was not made public until the girl was nine years old. According to Columbia County Court documents, Eveland was charged with Rape of a Child and Indecent Assault Person Less Than 13 Years Age (x2).  On 10-30-08, he plead guilty to one count of Indecent Assault and was sentenced to 9 to 23 months in Columbia County Prison. He was also sentenced to twelve months probation to start when his prison term is complete. On 11-20-08, he was released to serve his minimum sentence on home confinement. That means he is on probation, and any reported violation of his probation could get him sent back to jail. Please note, it is not unusual that this girl waited two years before reporting the abuse. Young children are often unaware of what is happening to them, and oftentimes don't report the abuse. That is why predators child predators get away with so much of this. The news story also seems to indicate the child was left alone in his care, since the reported incidents happened on three seperate occasions. This is a strong indication this may have happened to other children, because no normal person just wakes up one day and decides to have sex with a seven year old girl. People in Berwick should know the whereabouts of this man and keep their children away from him.

June13, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on October 8, 2008) The Press Enterprise reported that Christopher Jay Latham, last known to be of 1011 North  Warren Street in Berwick, grabbed a 12 year old boy's private parts. The same reports stated that he told police that when he "gets that feeling", he has to act on it. The report stated that the incident happened near the Uni-Mart on Freas Avenue where Latham approached the boy and two other teenagers and asked to touch the boy's penis. The report also states he approached the children at other times when they were in the area and asked their names. Columbia County Court documents state that he was charged with Unlawful Contact with a Minor-Sexual Offenses and Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 13 Years of Age. On March 2, 20009, he plead guilty to Indecent Assault and the Unlawful Contact with a Minor charge was dropped. Columbia County Court records state that on September 2, 2009, he was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in county prison. A press Enterprise report from  September 4, 2009, states that he was paroled at sentencing, and is waiting to be admitted into a group home. This behavior points to someone extremely dangerous. This is predatory behavior. Given the man's age and the detials of the assault, it does not sound to me like this is the first time something like this has happened. Normal poeople do not just wake up one day and do something like this. It progresses over time and ususally culminates in something worse. You people in Berwick would do well to keep aware of this man.

June14, 2009 A Press Enterprise report dated March 06, 2009, states that Joseph Samulevich, 47 of 649 Southdale Road, Shickshinny, plead guily to charges related to viewing child pornography while at work. Columbia County Court records state that he plead guily to Possession of Child Pornography in March of 2009 and was sentenced to 2-23 months. He was granted work release in May and will be on parole until sometime early in 2011. It is almost certain that conditions of his release include limited contact with children. Anyone with concerns can call Columbia County Probation and Parole anoymously.

June19, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on April 28, 2007.) A November 19, 2008 Press Enterprise report states that a Mocanaqua man, Gary Daniel Bartone, was found guilty of charges related to raping a young girl over a five year period.  The victim was reported to be 11 at the time the sexual abuse first started and another girl was also abused by him at a residence in Mount Pocono, Monroe County. According to  Luzerne County Court documents, Bartone was charged with Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse (x2), IDSI Against Victim Less Than 16 Years of Age (x2), Indecent Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Incest, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Corruption of Minors. There were 25 charges listed against this man. He was found guilty of 23 of those charges and sentenced to a number of years in state prison. He will be on Megan's Law website as a sexually violent predator.

June19, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on June 22, 2007)  Press Enterprise first reported that Mark A. Nash  of Milton was accused of sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl after her mother took a house guest to the hospital and he cornered the victim in her house on May 27, 2007.  Monour County Court records state that he was charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault W/O Consent, Aggravated Indecent Assault-Complainant Less Than 16, Corruption of Minors, Indecent Assault-W/O Consent of Other, and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. He plead guilty to Indecent Assault-W/O Consent Other and Corruption of Minors. He was sentenced in November of 2008 to 11 1/2 to 23 months with automatic work release. He was also ordered not to have contact with minors under the age of 18. He will be under this sentence until at least October of 2010. Anyone seeing him brake his parole restriction of not having contact with minors can call Montour County Probation and Parole anonymously to report him.

June19, 2009 An Ideal Park Campground worker was first reported as a Jason Alert sometime in 2007. His name is Alfred Purcell. A Press Enterprise story dated May 23, 2008, states that he worked for Ideal Park and was accused of grabbing the breasts of a mother and her teenaged daughter when he went to their camper to fix a sewage problem. The report also states that he has an Indecent Assault conviction in Berks County in the late 1990's. Columbia County Court documents state that he was originally charged with Corruption of Minors, Indecent Assault-W/O Consent of Other (x2), Harrassment (x2), and Simple Assault. All charges were either dropped or dismissed, except for Simple Assault, which he plead guilty to. In May of 2008, he was sentenced to 23 months probation and ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

October 06, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on July 17, 2008.) George Yea, of Millville, was charged with 31 counts of child sexual abuse for abusing foster children. His charges include Rape of a Child, Rape by Forcible Compulsion, Statutory Sexual Assault, IDSI of a Person Less Than 16 Years Age, Sexual Assault and Indecent Assault. Columbia County Court records state that he plead guilty IDSI of a Person Less Than 16 Years Age and was sentenced to 10-20 years in state prison. All other charges were withdrawn, but will be noted here.

October 06, 2009 (This was first posted as a Jason Alert on August 09, 2008) The Press Enterprise reported that a Columbia County man is facing charges for an assault of a teenaged girl. Michael H. Sienkiewicz, 21, of 534 Middle Road, Elysburg, and two other adults were alleged to have done the following: that on June, 19th, 2008, the two men and an unknown woman took three teens to a trailor at Shady Meadows Campground, 203 Freewill Road, Lot 29. After consuming alocohol, Sienkiewicz and another man allegedly took the girl to a bedroom where she was restrained against her will while being groped. The report states that the intervention of a male teen stopped the incident from going further. The girl's mother called police after she came home drunk after midnight on June 20th, 2008. One of the other teens was found drunk on his lawn by his grandfather and was taken to the hospital. Columbia County Court documents state that Sienkiewicz was arraigned before Judge James on 12-18-08 for Corruption of Minors, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Simple Assault, and Sell/Furnishing Liquor Etc Minor. On 02-04-09, he was sentenced to 12 months ARD for these charges. No information is available about the other two adults involved.

October 06, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on August 17, 2008.) The Press Enterprise reports that Lisa Croak, 45, of 19 Park Avenue in Danville, was banned from being a Danville High School football booster after admitted to a sexual encounter with a teenage boy. The report states that she was employed at North Central secure Treatment Unit when she had an inappropriate sexual encounter with teen boy incarcerated there. Montour County court records state that she was charged with Institutional Sexual Assault (which was dropped on 08-25-09) and Corruption of Minors (which she plead no contest to.)

October 06, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on October 20, 2008.) The Press Enterprise reports that Francisco Ayala, 43, Berwick, is accused of sexually assaulting a teen age girl several times at his residence on East Third Street. A Novemer 8, 2008 Press Enterprise report states that Ayala's own wife took police to their home at 1024 East Third Street to retrieve a sex toy used as evidence against him. The girl would take the bus to school and then call Ayala to pick her up. Luzerne County Court documents state that he was originally charged with Corruption of Minors, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse of a Person Less than 16 Years of Age, Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 16 Years of Age, Statutory Sexual Assault, and Unlawful Contact with a Minor-Sexual Offenses. All but the very last charge has been withdrawn. He plead guilty to this on 02-18-09. He was sentenced to at least 1-3 years in state prison, possibly longer, and will do at least 5 years probaon afterwards. He will have to register with Megan's Law as a sex offender for ten years.

October 06, 2009 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on November 23, 2008.) The Press Enterprise reports that Thomas Lee Mitchell, 56 of 911 Third Street, Nescopeck, faces Harrassment charges after he called a North centre Township girl and asked her what she was going to wear to a football game. He told her she should wear less to the game and stand next to him. When the girl's mother answered a second call, she had the call traced. The man's wife is alleged to have then told police somone stole her husband's cell phone when he was at work and then returned it to his lunch pail. Columbia County Court records state he plead guilty to Harrassment/Communication Repeatedly in an Anonymous Manner on 05-04-09. He was sentenced to 6-12 months in County prison with immediate work release.

March 02, 2010 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on February 8, 2009.) The Press Enterprise reports that Lee Lewis Heddings, 21 of Pine Township, was found guilty of molesting a girl, age five, over several years. He fondled the girl and showed her how to masturbate him. SHE WAS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD! The assaults happened between July 2007 and April 2008. Columbia County Court documents state he was charged with Indecent Assault (x4), Indecent Assault-Complainant Less than 13 Yrs (x4), Corruption of Minors (x7), Aggravated Indecent Assault w/o Consent (x3), Aggravated Indecent Assault-Less Than 13 Yrs (x3), and Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child (x3). Columbia County Court documents state that he plead guilty to two counts of Indecent Assault Person Less 13 Years of Age on 08/05/09. All other charges were either withdrawn prior to court or withdrawn in exchange for his guilty plea.He was assessed by the State Sexual Offenders Assessment Board and determine to be a violent sexual predator. He served 273 days in Columbia County Prison and was paroled. He was sentenced on 02-09-10 for up to 23 months, which means he will on parole until sometime in January, 2012.

March 02, 2010 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on November 01, 2007.) The Press Enterprise reports that Heather Marie Sellers ,of 329 Pearl Street in Berwick, was accused of molesting young girl. The report states the victim to be under 13 years old and related to Sellers.  Columbia County Court documents state that she ws charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 13 Years of Age, Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 13 Years of Age and Corruption of Minors. She plead guilty to Corruption of Minors and was sentenced to 3-23 months in county prison. She was paroled and is on parole until sometime in January, 2011. The other two charges against her were dropped.  Also, a  Press Enterprise report dated December 13, 2007, stated that a man identified as her husband, Paul Sellers, was arrested for allegedly molesting a 14 year old boy. The charges were eventually dropped when the victim refused to testify. NEW UPDATE: The Press Enterprise, (July 03, 2010), reports that Heather Sellers and her husband Paul are charged with the following: Heather is charged with 25 acts of Rape of a Child, and 25 acts of Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with Child. Paul Sellers is charged with 25 counts Rape of a Child and 25 counts Aggravated Indecent Assault-Complainent Less Than 13 Years Old. Both are in prison unable to make bail. These are new charges with new victims, some of them reporting being abused numerous times over a four year period. The police report states that a whip, a dildo, and rubber objects were reportedly used in these acts against children.

July 17, 2010 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on February 19, 2009.) The Press Enterprise reports that Harwood Jay Robbins, age 43, of 325 Lasalle Street in Berwick, is charged with crimes against three underaged girls. The victims are from Berwick and Danville.The police report that they talked with at least three other potential victims, but no charges have yet been filed for these. The police detective, Kenneth Strish, is quoted as saying he believes Robbins has been having sex with underaged girls for "as long as 20 years ago". The article states that he admitted having sex with one girl, age 17, and that a woman he was once married to, Peggy Reynolds, is quoted as saying "He's been doing it for years". The report also alleges that the man's current wife, Cassandra Robbins, knew of an incident ith a 13 year girl and warned her not to tell the police. It also alleges that she knew about photos of underaged girls her husband had taken of them in the shower. Columbia County Court records state he is charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault-Complainent Less Than 16 Yrs Age, Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Yrs. Age (x 3), and Criminal Attempt-Statutory Sexual Assault. On 01-11-10, he plead guilty to Indecent Assault Person Less than 13 Years of Age (x2) and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. He is still awaiting sentencing.

September 16, 2010 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on June 9, 2009.) The Press Enterprise reports that Glenn Atwood Farver III, 46 of Orangeville, fondled a six year girl while attending a service at  a local area church. The report states that a former pastor of the church saw what Farver was doing and immediately stepped in to stop it from going any further, removing the girl from the situation. Columbia County Court records state that Farver was charged with Indecent Assault-Complainant Less Than 13 Years, and Corruption of Minors. On March 1, 2010, he was found guilty on Indecent Assault and sentenced to 03-23 months in county prison. I f he is released on parole, his sentence will not expire until February 2012, in case anyone happens to notice him, suspiciopusly, in the presence of minors.

September 16, 2010 In March of 2009, former Berwick firefighter, Shawn Robert Smith (then 25) was caught with child pornography on his home and fire hall computers. Smith, who resided at 604 Maple Street in Berwick, admitted to hooking into a neighbor's wireless Internet connection to download images of teenagers. Images were found on the computer at the fire hall. Smith's wife allegedly found files containing child porn on his home computer as well. Columbia County Court records state that he was charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Design Obscene/Sexual Materials. On 05-27-10, he plead guily to the second charge and the child porn was dismissed. He was sentenced to 2 days to 18 months in county prison, to be granted immediate parole. He will be on parole until November 2011. Any supected violations regarding contact with children can be reported anonymously to Columbia County Probation Offices.

October 27, 2010 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on November 27, 2008.) The Press Enterprise reports that Carl E. Teter, 61 of Zion Grove, was accused of getting a 15 year old boy drunk and then taking advantage of him sexually. The report states that he called the teen on his cell phone, told him he had some beer, and then took him to a remote area where they drank until the teen passed out. That is when Teter pulled the boy's pants down and fondled him. The report also states that Teter made numerous sexual advances on the boy before he passed out. Columbia County Court records state that Teter was charged with Unlawful Restraint/Serious Bodily Injury, Unlawful Contact with Minor-Sexual Offences (x3), Indecent Assault Person Substantially Impaired, Corruption of Minors (x2), Ind Asslt Person Less 16 Yrs Age, Sell/Furnish Liquor Etc Minor, Harassment-Subject Other to Physical Contact (x3), Unlawful Restraint/Serious Bodily Injury (x2). Contact/Comm w/ Minor-Sexual Offences (x2) and Unlawful Restraint/Serious Bodily Injury (x2) have been dismissed. On 07-12-10, he plead guilty to Unlawful Contact With Minor-Sexual Offences and Indecent Assault Person Substantially Impaired, while the other charges were Nolle Prossed . The Press Enterprise (October 27, 2010) states that he was sentenced to one month in Columbia County Prison followed by five months of house arrest. The article states the sentencing judge cited a similar incident involving a youth about 16 years ago which turned up during a background check.

October 27, 2010 Columbia County Court records state that on 07-1-09, Alexander Earnest was charged with Corruption Of Minors. On 01-11-10, he plead guilty to this and on 04-01-10 was sentenced to 3 to 23 months in Columbia County Prison. He was to be paroled at minimum and put on probation until March 2012. A Press Enterprise report dated 04-03-10 states that the charges stem from him having sex with a 16 year old girl. Earnest was 30 at the time and was reported to live at 308 Edgar Avenue in Espy. That above mentioned date is important should any parent find him having contact with their teenaged daughter. Any suspected violations of his probation can be reported to Columbia County Probation.

October 27, 2010 Columbia County Court records state that on 6-01-08, Richard Charles Babb was charged with Indecent Exposure (x8), Corruption of Minors, Indecent Assault-W/O Cons of Other (x2), Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Yrs Age(x2), and Endangering Welfare of Children-Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense. On 06-01-09, he was charged with Invasion of Privacy-view, photograph, etc. person w/out consent (x5). Endaring Welfare of Children was withdrawn. On 04-01-10 he plead guilty to one count of Indecent Exposure and one count of Invasion of Privacy. On 06-11-10, he was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in Columbia County Prison. He was granted work release that same month. He will be on parole until May 2012. A Press Enterprise story from April 3, 2010, states the charges come from an incident in which he exposed his erect penis to a 13 year old girl and peeped at her taking a shower. Babb, then 71, was reported to live at Strawberry Lane in Stillwater. (Court documents also state on 06-27-2000, he was charged with Simple Assault an Endangering Welfare of Children. He plead guilty to both and was sentenced to twelve months in prison.) He is on parole until at least May of 2012. Anyone concerned about questionable contact with children can report him to Columbia County Probation.

February 20, 2011 Columbia County Court records state that on 03-25-10, Jonathan Van Nieuwland, 21 of 738 West Front Street, Berwick, was charged with Aggravated Indecent Assault-Complainent Less Than 16, and Statutory Sexual Assault. A Press Enterprise report dated December 24, 2010, states that he was sentenced to 11 and a half to 23 months for unrelated charges he was originally arrested for in March of 2010. While being questioned by police on these charges, it states he also admitted to having sex with a girl under the age of 16. The story reports the girl claimed she was raped. On 03-31-10, the case was transfered to the Court of Common Pleas. I could not locate it, however, the newspaper report states he was sentenced to nine months for the charges pertaining to this girl.

February 20, 2011 This is the first time I am doing this, but I am listing an institution rather than an indivual as a concern for parents wanting to protect their children. I am desiring to make note of Southern Columbia School District. An undated Press Enterprise story from 2010 lays out my case. Two Southern Columbia students, David Zelinski and Keith Day, were convicvted on charges related to sexually assualting a female student on July 13,2009. They both served time in juvenile lock-ups during the summer of 2010. One of the boys mother is a Southern teacher. The father of the victim wanted the boys punished additionally by the school. His daughter reported being harassed by friends of the convicted and also had to be in her attackers presence while at school. The school did take steps to seperate the boys from the victim, but claimed it could do no more, since the incident happed outside of school and it was not within their jurisdiction to seek additional punishment. (The board president, Mike Yeager, is quoted in this article as stating as much.) However, it should be noted the article also states that Southern's High School principal, James Becker, and the football coach Jim Roth, both testified for the boys "high character" at their trial. It is interesting how the board stated it couldn't get involved in a private matter for the sake of the sexual assault victim, but it did not prohibit its employees from getting involved on behalf of the attackers. I also want to make note that a Press Enterprise report dated May 15, 2010, proves my point further. This report states that a teacher, Matthew Harvey, abruptly quit in January 2009, after being accused of having sex with a female student. The article states that a complaint was lodged with the state Department of Education. Harvey quit and gave up his teaching certificate, so he did not have to answer to the misconduct allegation. However, no criminal charges were filed in the matter. Southern Columbia administrators knew a man was accused of having sex with a teenager and noone apparently notified law enforcement or Children and Youth. This man now to gets to walk away scott free. In conclusion, it seems to me parents of teenage girls at Southern Columbia need to be very concerned about trusting their child's safety to school administrators. I think concerned parents also need to monitor the situation and keep in touch with one another. May God bless the victims and their families mentioned here.

February 21, 2011 (This was first reported as a Jason Alert on March 26, 2009)   The Press Enterprise reports that James E. Rowe, of 16 Walnut Street in Danville, was accused of putting a hamster up a 14 year old girl's pant leg, smacking her behind, trying to tickle her, and trying to take photos of her with his cell phone. Montour County court record state that he was charged wth Corruption of Minors, Harrassment, and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. A follow-up story from the same newspaper on August 19, 2009, states that all charges were dropped after the man spent five months in county jail. (Montour County Court records support this.) The reason he was put in jail for these charges was because he was already on parole from a prior conviction for a sex crime against a juvenile. Montour County Court records state that he was arrested for Statutory Sexual Assault, Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age, and Corruption of Minors. He was found guilty of Corruption of Minors and Indecent Assault on March 25, 2008 was sentenced to 6-23 months in county prison.

September 17, 2011 An undated Press Enterprise story reports that Brian Fish, a Berwick middle school teacher, is facing indecent assault charges after he tried to touch a 14 year old boy on his front porch. His address is listed as 120 Garfield Ave. in Berwick.  He invited the boy onto his front porch as the boy was passing by, and then hugged him and tried to touch his penis. Columbia County Court records state that he was charged with Corruption of Minors and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. On 04-29-10, he plead guilty to Indecent Assault and had the other charge dropped. He received 3-23 months in county prison, and was released on parole.

September 17, 2011 A February 3, 2011 Press Enterprise story states that Allen E. Hunsinger plead guilty to stattory sexual assault charges in aggreement to having other charges dropped for having sex with a 15 year old girl. Hunsinger was 34 at the time of the plea deal. His addres was listed as 1127 Eighth Ave (I Believe in Berwick). Columbia County Court records state that he was charged with IDSI Person Less 16 Years Age, Statutory Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. On 01/28/11, he plead guilty to Statutory Sexual Assault and was sentenced to 8 to 23 months in prison.

September 17, 2011 A February 3, 2011 Press Enterprise states that Chrisitan Long, of 4037 rear Old Berwick Road, had sexual contatc with a 14 year old girl. His age was noted as 19 at the time of the story. Columbia County Court records state he was charged with Rape Forcible Compulsion, IDSI Person Less 16 Years Age, and Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Years Age. On 01/28/11, he plead guilty to Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Yaers Age and was sentenced  to 15 days to 18 months in prison.
